Nearly a Quarter Down, and Kathy Starts Christmas Magic

Anne Conrad’s “Magical Cruise” cross stitch in progress on pink hand-dyed fabric in a scroll frame with pirate-print guards — the cruise ship stitched in the left ear, the stacked luggage between the ears, the island and palm trees in the right ear, and the compass rose and anchor taking shape below
16,381 stitches in — 24.6% of the real work, on pink fabric I hand-dyed myself. The ship is in the left ear, the island is in the right, and the stacked luggage sits between them.

A much better stitching week than last week — the chart gremlins gave me my evenings back. I put 2,591 stitches into “Magical Cruise,” which brings me to 16,381 stitches — 24.6% of everything I actually have to stitch, since the background stays bare, as always.

The picture is really starting to fill in. The ship is sailing in the left ear, the island and its palm trees are growing in the right one, the stacked luggage sits between the ears, and the compass rose and anchor are taking shape down below. All that confetti is finally starting to look like something.

And here’s the part I’m quietly proud of: that pink fabric underneath it? I hand-dyed it myself.

Kathy’s new start

Kathy has officially started “Christmas Magic” by Primrose Cottage Stitches — the Halloween rock star is barely off the frame and she’s already into Christmas. NOEL is stitched, two little red heart ornaments are hanging, and “Rudolph” is underway in red right beside it. Her fabric is hand-dyed too — a warm tan I dyed for her. Her needle minder says it all: “Stitching, because adulting is hard.” 😄

That’s the craft room for this week — one marathon closing in on the quarter mark, and one brand-new Christmas start. See you next Sunday!
